Neotibicen dorsatus

The bush cicada (Neotibicen dorsatus) lives in tallgrass prairies found in central North America.
Urbanization and destruction of grasslands has caused decline of this species.
This is an annual cicada so they appear every summer and generally live for about 3 to 5 years.

This painting was created as a commission for a biologist who studies cicadas.
